About Dr. Kaisen Yao
Dr. Yao is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who
specializes in sports medicine of the knee, shoulder, elbow, hip, and ankle, with a focus on ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration and preservation, arthroplasty, and orthopedic trauma and fracture care. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious NYU Langone Health and his orthopedic surgery residency — serving as Chief Resident — at Lenox Hill Hospital. During his fellowship, he also worked with several professional sports teams as a team physician, including the New Jersey Devils, Washington Commanders, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
A former collegiate swimmer at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Yao brings an athlete's perspective to helping patients return safely to the activities they love. Outside of orthopedics, he enjoys golf, swimming, running, classical piano, exploring new restaurants, and traveling the world.
Research, Publications, and Scholarly Activity
Dr. Kaisen Yao is an orthopedic sports medicine physician with an active academic and research portfolio spanning hip preservation, sports medicine, and orthopedic trauma. He has authored several peer-reviewed publications in journals including Arthroscopy, Arthroscopy Techniques, Orthopaedics Journal of Sports Medicine, and Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also an advocate of advancing orthopedic technologies and has done innovative work on the use of virtual and augmented reality in orthopedics, which has earned numerous awards at national and international meetings.
Dr. Yao has presented his research extensively at institutional, regional, and national forums, including at ISHA (The Hip Preservation Society), OSET (Orthopedic Summit for Emerging Technologies), and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Annual Meetings. He has also authored several innovative surgical technique videos spanning from sports medicine to orthopedic trauma, which have been published in video libraries and journals online.
